Haiti in January is a great thing, especially this year. The temperatures were a bit warm during the middle of the day but it was really perfect tee shirt weather. At night only a sheet and light blanket were needed with the windows wide open and the fan turning.
We want to highlight three specific activities this year. 1. Linda Moon gave memorial money for the goat project in honor of husband Steve. It was exciting to know the interview and selection process. There is even a goat sheriff who makes sure the 10 families take good care of their pregnant animal. The first female goes back to the initial project and after that the family starts building their own herd. 2. The next exciting event was the inaugural feeding program at the Three Bears and Me hospital school. Tuesday we went to this country school and the kids were gnawing on sugar cane. Wednesday we went out to observe the goat project and there the volunteer MOM’s were cooking away. We nearly cried. Everyone was soooooooo excited. The pictures tell the story. Pella II gave most of the money for this outreach to a hungry world. 3. Third exciting journey to the country was the community of Boukeronne. The eighth hospital school will be built there soon and called THE BRIDGE. Team members were: MDRC members Virg and Dorothy Dykstra, team leaders, Mark Lee, Lindsay Lee, Tara Lee, Gene Tasler, Marilyn Bergman, Larry and Marge Madole, Omaha: Steve Kendall and Andy Quick; Hinckley, MN: Herb Sikkink, Lucy Sikkink, Robert Sikkink, Elwyn Nelson and Gladys Nelson; Pella: Dody Boat, Pam Boat and Brandon Boat. Praise God for a great team and great experience. Other Haiti Information |
