Nine of us traveled the road again to the gulf coast region to help rebuild homes, lives, and hope in the people who two and a half years ago suffered from Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of flooding. People told us they had been praying for over two years that "someone" would come and help them rebuild their home. We met a man who has lived in a "shed" for over a year waiting for someone to come and put a roof on his new home; he is disabled. There were tears and much gratitude. We saw ourselves as a small piece of the big picture; what we did not finish, someone who follows will. Bruce and Laurie Hawley, RCA missionaries, were in the area for seven weeks hosting weekly teams and coordinating the jobs. As always there was much heartbreak as well as laughter, fellowship, and finding new ways and places to "see Jesus" and advance His Kingdom. Team members: Denny & Judy Applegate, Dave & Sheila Clark, Gary & Sharon Carr, Lloyd and Ruth Graham, and Gene Tasler. We followed the yellow brick road to Hawaiian Gardens, California! The Wizard of Oz was the theme for the Vacation Bible School that we helped with and we had a blast playing games and telling the stories of Jesus to lots of neighborhood kids. We were amazed by the mission story of Barry and Terrel Bruce and their family for the gang filled neighborhood of Hawaiian Gardens and also reminded of the great and huge love of God for ALL his people. We formed friendships with some of the teens that come to the youth center in the area and worked side by side with them during Bible School. We also grew closer as a church family group and grew in our faith as we spent time in devotion and debriefing together. The "California girls" will always share a special bond!

The mission trip to Vancouver, B.C. was for Craig and Julie Sladek who are with Athletes in Action, a division of Crusade for Christ. We went to Jerico Community Church which is a multi-campus church. We remodeled their basement so they could rent it out to girls from the college campus that Julie mentors.
