I am a native Iowan, and proud of it.  I was raised in the far northwest corner of the state and graduated from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa in 1969. A year earlier I was married to my wife of 39 years, Deanna. I graduated from Western Theological Seminary in May of 1973 and immediately moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Deanna and I served Christ's Community Church for nearly 11 years. In March of 1984 we accepted the call of Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines and this has been our home ever since.

As a pastor my primary passions are preaching God's Word and leading the congregation forward in its mission in the world. It is a privilege to  serve a congregation where so many of the people "get it", which is to say they understand that the church is "a fellowship of believers called by God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent forth to be the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world." More and more, this congregation understands that our shared task as Christians is to equip one another for the  grand purpose of "following Christ in mission in a lost and broken world so  loved by God."

Deanna and I are the proud parents of three adult children, two of whom live in Des Moines with their spouses and all minister in this congregation with us.  Our oldest son is the pastor of a church in Hudsonville, Michigan.  We are also "full of delight" grandparents of Rachel, Justin, Samuel, Nathan, Caleb, and Jaelyn.  Our greatest joy is time spent with family.
