Refresh Adult Retreat – 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM – Saturday, January 22 – MDRC at the Bridge

  • Come and slow down, reflect, pray, and reengage your relationship with God at this half day retreat. We will have some guided prayer time, ways to reflect on scripture, and a chance to connect with others over the course of the morning.

Learn about Housing and Redlining in DSM with Efrem Jackson  –  6:30 - 8:00 PM – Thursday, January 27 – second floor triangle

  • In the next year, our church is committed to learning more about housing justice in Des Moines. Efrem Jackson is a local financial literacy advocate, licensed financial advisor, and owner of Free to Serve Financial Ministries. He also presented with TedxDesMoines on the wealth gap and housing. Come learn with us about the history of redlining and access to housing in Des Moines.

Connection Lunch for those Caring for Aging Parents – 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM – Sunday, February 13 – balcony

  • Caring for aging parents can feel overwhelming and isolating. Join Pastor Gary Hanson and others in our congregation who are in the same season of life to connect, learn from each other, and help us brainstorm how the church can continue to support people in this life stage.

CONNECT & GROW

We have several ways  to connect with others and grow in your faith based on different interests and life seasons. We have large Connect Groups for senior adults (Pillars), young adults (Branches) and smaller Connect Groups like book clubs,  small groups, and topical support groups. Groups offer the opportunity to meet new people in the church and community, while having a chance to explore topics of faith and life in safe and friendly settings. 


SUNDAY MORNING OPPORTUNITIES

Video Discussion Group – 9:00 AM – Room 201-205 & online – Dave Vander Werff and Gerrad Clausen

  • A place to connect with others and discuss the themes of a video-based, biblical teaching.

Feasting on the Word – 10:30 AM – Room 207-209 – Pastor Gary Hanson and Arlan Van Roekel

  • A place to connect with others and discuss the scripture passages that follow the lectionary each week. 

Sacred Rhythms Discussion Group  –  9:00 AM (Starting January 16th) – Room 207-209 – Pastor Sara Gregory 

  • A place to consider with others how to develop habits and rhythms in your life that keep you connected to God.

Short-Term OPPORTUNITIES

Renewing Your Purpose (3-Week Class) – 6:00 - 7:30 PM – Sunday evenings, February 6th, February 20th, and March 6th – Trish Berry and Christopher White

  • If you are new to the church, or are struggling to figure out how to get connected, this class is for you! In this three-session class, you will consider with others what God's purpose for you might be in this season, what your spiritual gifts are, and how you might connect more deeply with community.

  • A place to connect with other men and explore the ways that we can see Jesus in the Old Testament. 

Pillars – 9:30 AM – Wednesdays (2nd & 4th) – Second Floor Triangle – Arlan Van Roekel

  • A place to connect with other retired individuals, share prayer requests, explore biblical teaching together, participate in service projects, and have social events. 

Women's Group – 9:30 AM – Fridays – Barb Van Roekel

  • A place to connect with other women and grow in your love of God and others. 

Men's Group – 7:00-8:30 AM – Saturdays – Kevin Smith

  • A place to connect with other men and discuss the book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer.

A great way to connect with others at MDRC at The Bridge, is serving others by using our passions and talents on Sunday mornings, during the week, and for special events as they arise. Serve Groups also offer a chance to connect with other volunteers who share similar interests, as well as the members who attend our church and events.
